Ankle socks

Short enough to disappear, tall enough to stay put.
An ankle sock finishes at or just above the ankle bone. A narrow band of cuff shows above a trainer collar, which is the whole point: it protects the heel from the shoe without adding visible length to the leg.
It is the hardest short length to get right. Cut it too low and the heel slips down inside the shoe on the third wear; cut it too high and it reads as a badly made quarter sock. The fix is not more elastane in the cuff but a correctly shaped heel pocket.

What to settle before we quote an ankle sock.
Most complaints about ankle socks trace back to one of these being left unstated.
Height above the heel. Give it as a measurement from the top of the heel, with the shoe you expect it to be worn with. "Ankle" spans about three centimetres of interpretation between one buyer and the next.
Heel grip. A tab at the back of the heel, a silicone strip, or a deeper heel pocket. Each solves slippage differently and each shows differently in a product photograph.
Cuff visibility. If the cuff is meant to show above the shoe it becomes a branding surface and needs a colour and finish decision. If it is meant to hide, it needs to be shorter than you think.
Foot finish. Flat knit keeps the shoe fit unchanged. A light terry sole adds comfort but half a size of bulk, which matters more in a trainer than in a boot.
